Our Weekend Netflix/Redbox Movie Picks

Since I was pretty much out during the weekend being busy and sick. We watched alot of movies, both from Netflix and Redbox. Here is what I got from Netflix.

I was so happy when I got these from Netflix. My girls loved, loved, loved these movies. They had never seen "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" in it's entirety, they usually give it on T.V., but we usually miss it. They enjoyed it so much. They don't understand why Charlie Brown keeps getting rocks in his treat bag! There is also a bonus episode where Snoopy gets a magic book from the library and creates his own magic show. It's a must see.

I rented this one because my girls love musicals. I was so happy that they fell in love with this classic. My daughter Katarina is constantly singing "The Boy Next Door" and "The Trolley Song" by Judy Garland. They were fascinated by the way that people lived in those times. How all the women were always so perfectly dressed and how their hair was so nice and made up. It was wonderful sharing these movies with them as I grew up watching them myself with my mom.

Now, here is what we got from Redbox. Thanks to the Redbox code I posted the other day, the one that expires on the 23rd of this month, I was able to one of these movies for free.



The girls had been asking and asking me for this one. It was going to take too long to come from Netflix, so we found it at the Redbox and got it for them. It was a great movie. If you have ever seen the Beach Movies with Frankie & Annette then you will love this movie. They even dedicated it to Annette Funnicello. It's the Beach Movies and West Side Story rolled into one. We enjoyed it.

This was a great movie. Everything about it was great. You will never believe the ending. I was not expecting it to be as great as it was. I especially loved Woody Harrelson, he is getting better and better with each movie he does.

Hollywood stars playing themselves was great to watch. Apparently, the apocalype has come and they all struggle to survive inside James Franco's new house. It kind of dragged a little bit in the middle but it was very funny. I loved it when Emma Watson shows up, she steps away from her Hermonie character and cusses! OMG! If you love all these actors you will love this movie.

Netflix Movie Pick: Oblivion



Are you a Tom Cruise fan? Of course you are, how could you not be? But, while I love everything he pretty much has done over the years, this movie, left me a bit confused. It wasn't until toward the end of the movie that I finally understood what happend.

I would still say to put this on your list, because, even though it took me a while to understand the plot, it was still a good move. Tom Cruise just keeps getting better and better.

Redbox Pick: Iron Man 3

We had been waiting and waiting to go see this movie when it first came out, sadly we were not able to go watch at the theater, even though we had gotten those free tickets from the back of the pizza boxes, which I still have and are good for another movie and expire on the 29th of this month. I still had a free blue-ray promo code so we didn't pay for it. I have to say that this movie was so great. I loved all the action, drama and they even gave Pepper some fightning scenes, which were great. Ms. Paltrow can kick some butt! I just might have to add this to my Netflix list so I can watch it again. So rent it today if you haven't seen it. It's a great movie and remember to forward to the end of the credits for that little snippet they put in, it's funny.

Netflix Pick: Skyfall (James Bond 007)

Yesterday, we recieved Skyfall (007) from Netflix. The girls finally sent Selena back so that daddy could get his movie. I wish I could give you a formal review of this movie, but sadly, I fell asleep halfway throught it. It was not because it was a boring movie, not at all, what I watched was great, but, I did alot of running around after work and could not keep my eyes open. My husband gave me his rating of the movie, a big thumbs up! He loved it, of course, he loves all the Bond movies, as I do. But there is a sad part in there, and if you have not seen the movie, I will not give that away. So, put this movie on your Netflix list today.

I, on the other hand, will watch it again tonight before I send it back.

Redbox Pick: Scary Movie 5

Here is my movie pick from Redbox. I have a few free promo codes from Redbox because I had some problems with the machines a while back, so they sent me a bunch of free codes. This movie is so funny, it spoofs the movie "Mama" that came out a while back with Jessica Chastain. This movie is a big departure from the other movies that they have done in the past. It stars Ashley Tisdale from the High School Musical Movies. I think she did a great job in this movie. For a few good laughs, rent this movie. You will love it.

Redbox Pick: Star Trek Into Darkness

I used the free Redbox Code I posted yesterday. I had initially put this on my Netflix list, but it had a very long wait status and me and my husband really wanted to watch it. I am not much of a Trekkie, but I must say, that this movie really had me on the edge of my seat. There is so much action in this movie. The storyline is easy to follow, we are introduced to "Kahn", if you watched Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn, then you will know where this story is going. Just like in the first movie, Mr. Leonard Nimoy (Spock) makes another cameo appearance, a very brief cameo, but nontheless, an appearance, which I really enjoyed.

If you have not watched this movie, I highly recommend you do. It's got humor, love, action, bonds of friendship, plus you will notice similarities between this movie and the original movies (if you have not watched the original movies, watch them, then you will know what I am talking about). So take advantage of the free Redbox Code from yesterday, it's good until 09-25-13, and watch this movie. You will enjoy it.

Movies of the Week

I was trying to do this as a weekly post, but since you can keep Netlix movies as long as you want, we usually keep our movies for about two weeks. So here are our picks for this week, we just got them in on Saturday.



We have Alvin & the Chipmunks Part 1 on DVD, but the girls wanted to see the other two movies, so we put them on the list and they have been watching it all weekend. We decided to watch all three movies together, like a mini-marathon. Me and my husband had not really sat down to watch them all the way through, so we were finally able to watch all three in a row. They are such great movies, great music, and so funny. We had a great time watching them.

Since we have the 3 at a time Netflix plan, we still have the movie "Selena" at home, the girls don't want to return it. I have the movie on VHS, but the VHS machine is broken, so we decided to keep it for a little while longer. I recently saw the DVD for $5.00 at H-E-B, I plan on buying it next week and giving it to them for Christmas.

Our Movies of the Week

Every week I will be sharing our Netflix/Redbox Movie picks with you. We love to watch movies and t.v. shows at our house and alot of times we fall in love with movies that we hadn't heard of. So I would love to share with you our movie picks and hope you will share your favorite movies and shows with me as well.

Our family has a monthly subscription to Netflix, which we absolutely love! At the moment we don't have cable and don't plan to until later this year when our finances get into better shape. So, we have been watching movies and shows that we get from Netflix (don't have the streaming plan, to expensive at the moment). I love getting things in the mail and this is one of those things that I can't wait to see in my mailbox, because it means family time and sharing movies and shows that I used to watch when I was young and movies that me and my husband used to watch when we were dating. I come from a very musical family and lately all of the movies that we have been watching have been musicals. My girls can't get enough of those, here is what we are watching this week.

Netflix Movies of the Week:

Selena

This was not a difficult choice for us. Selena was a big part of the Rio Grande Valley and when she was taken it was a huge loss. Since the arrival of Disney Star, Selena Gomez, who mentions alot that she was named after Selena, our girls kept asking us who the real Selena was, while we tried to introduce the music before, they weren't having it, because it was in spanish and they didn't understand it, according to them. So, we decided the best way to introduce the music was to rent the movie and so they could understand who she was and what she meant to us. After they saw they movie, Katarina was the one who really comprehended what happend and was actually crying at the end, Hailey had to have it explained to her. Not only has this changed thier lives (literally), they cannot get enough of the music, they want to go to Corpus Christi and visit her grave, they want to visit the museum and they want to be singers like her, because, according to them "she was one of us", she followed her dream. So, I recommend this movie to watch with your kids, introduce the music, introduce the woman, and keep her legacy alive.

Hairspray

What can I say? John Travolta as "Edna Turnblad"? Classic! The best musical in a long time. Great story, great music. Powerful messages of equality and unity is not to be ignored. This had my girls asking me questions about segregation. Not only is this a great musical to watch, it can also be a teaching tool as well.

We hadn't seen this one, so we decided to put it on our list.

So, this is our Netflix Movies of the Week, we try to get away from the everyday and just relax with a good movie, pop a little popcorn, make some nachos and gather around the T.V.
